Planting
- Dig hole 6” to 2 times the diameter wider than the root ball. Set tree in hole so that the top of the root ball is level or slightly higher than existing grade (up to 3” higher). Never plant a tree too deep.
- Backfill with soil, adding water as you go to eliminate any air pockets. Compact soil firmly.
- Use excess soil to form a saucer around the tree to insure that water will penetrate the root ball.
- Stake larger trees located in high wind areas.
- Water according to the watering guide : Watering Guide.
- Fertilize according to the fertilization guide: Fertilization Guide.
